In October 2021, during the second round of the opposition primary, 42 percent of Hungarian voters had a positive opinion and 47 percent had a negative opinion of Péter Márki-Zay. After the candidate’s victory, the minus five-point index could have shifted to a positive direction, but in the last two months exactly the opposite trend could be observed: the popularity of Péter Márki-Zay is constantly declining.
According to the latest survey conducted by Századvég in December, 36 percent of respondents had a positive opinion and 56 percent had a negative opinion of the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely. This already means a minus twenty-point rejection, which is a particularly significant loss in such a short time.
Péter Márki-Zay is popular only in the capital, although the proportion is also only 49 percent to 47 percent. Thirty-eight percent of those living in the county seat like him and 53 percent of them reject him. Very similar values can be observed for villages (29 percent to 61 percent) and for smaller towns (34 percent to 56 percent).
The opposition’s candidate for prime minister is slightly more rejected among women (32 percent to 57 percent) than men (41 percent to 53 percent), but both sexes have negative perception of him.
Among voters under the age of 40, 44 percent like him and 48 percent do not, and over the age of 30, only 30 percent like him and 62 percent do not. Among pensioners, the candidate is explicitly rejected: only 24 percent have a positive opinion of him, while 66 percent reject him.
In the case of undecided voters, Péter Márki-Zay is liked by 24 percent and rejected by 45 percent.
