Webinar on companies’ awareness and assessment of the climate goals

#Economic Research

As part of the series webinars organized by Századvég Group, the next event focuses on companies’ awareness and assessment of the climate goals. We will introduce and discuss the results of our very recent research among Hungarian companies on the subject matter. Participants will learn how companies approach climate policies and how their awareness changed during the first 16 months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The European Union adopted its Clean Energy for All Europeans package, which focuses on the decarbonisation of the energy sector. Companies will play a key role in achieving the Community's ambitious emission reduction targets, therefore it is interests of the Member States to learn about how economic actors relate to climate protection.

Századvég carried out a primary research regarding the general attitude and plans of Hungarian companies regarding climate awareness, carbon neutrality and energy efficiency, in June 2020. The research was conducted using CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) method on 1049 companies, of which 42 entities operate under the ETS (Emission Trading System) while 1007 were non-ETS companies.

The primary aim of the research was to:

  • get to know the companies attitude towards renewable and energy efficiency investments and their position on related national directives;contemporary condition and willingness of environmental investment;
  • contemporary condition and willingness of environmental investment;
  • small and medium enterprises (pressure) expectation from their customers;
  • general assumption of companies.

Aim of the discussion: to share the outcome of the research and provide the audience with an insight into company behaviour and attitude on climate change in Hungary, supply decision-makers with first-hand data in order to enable them to make more evidence-based decisions. The discussion will be enriched by the contribution of Mr Korosi, who will offer his expertise regarding the wider aspects of environmental-mindfulness, in particular what it means for Hungary as a state in the European context. In addition, Ms Iara will provide the audience with insight into preparatory work that proceeded the Fit For 55 Package of the European Commission. As a conclusion, Ms. Vári will provide us insight on the perspective of the corporate sector.
