Participants will learn about the national ecosystem of innovation funding opportunities in Hungary and the Czech Republic. Attendants to the webinar will understand how CEE countries approach research, development and innovation (RDI) promotion, how local innovation ecosystems develop and how intellectual property plays a key role in innovation, and what the key underlying factors of the current innovation processes are. Members of the panel will also discuss characteristics of the region, the reasons behind the region’s innovation laggardness and possible solutions.
The European Commission recently run a public consultation as a call for evidence for the new European Innovation Agenda, which among others, aims at better interconnecting innovation ecosystems and bridging the innovation divide between regions and member states. The call attracted more than 100 respondents and generated a manifold discussion in the innovation community and not only.
By this webinar, we would like to contribute to the discussion, in particular as to how better interconnecting innovation ecosystems and what to do to more effectively bridge the innovation divide within the EU by providing hands-on experience and examples from our region.

Panelists:
András Inotai
András is Head of Unit of Innovation Policy and Access to Finance, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission. He is currently overseeing the development of the new European Innovation Agenda and several aspects of innovation financing. András has been with the European Commission for 19 years, and in his former roles he was Senior Advisor to former Commissioner Karmenu Vella and was working as a member of the Cabinet of former Commissioner Maria Damanaki.
Lábody Péter
Péter is the Vice President of Legal, International and Innovation Affairs at the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office since 2021. His responsibilities are managing and supervising the legal, international and innovation support areas of the Office. He is a researcher at the University of Public Service Ludovika since 2019.
Bohumil Kartous
Bohumil has been Director of the Prague Innovation Institute since 2020, a public benefit organization established as a registered office by the Capital City of Prague. Bohumil is expert in education advancement and is co-founder of the citizen expert platform KoroNERV20. He also works as an advisor to Jiří Drahoš, the chairman of the Committee of Education of the Czech Senate, and he is a member of the board of the University of Economics and Management.
Bence Kováts
Bence is Director of PMO at Századvég Konjunktúrakutató and has 12+ years of experience in project management and project delivery. His experience includes planning and evaluating corporate development and RDI support programmes and schemes; he has experience both in advising SMEs in applying for funding, and in applying on behalf of his own firm as well. He is lecturer at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
