Participants will learn about Századvég’s recent field study concerning consumer’s waste related behaviour: recycling, minimization, environmental considerations. We will also discuss critical elements of the ongoing recast of the European Union’s longstanding framework.

Századvég carried out a representative primary research between September-November 2021 with the objective to cast a better picture about how consumers in Hungary relate to waste collection. The investigation was conducted using the Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing method reaching out to 20.000 Hungarian adults.

Members of the panel will discuss how waste collection and sustainability objectives could further be streamlined, in particular in view of the recent changes in waste collection and management in Hungary and in the middle of the revision work that the European Commission is carrying out presently.

Following the call for evidence earlier in 2022, the European Commission recently run a public consultation on the EU Waste Framework with the aim to further reduce waste generation and improve selective waste collection. The consultation attracted hundreds or responses and the Commission now is evaluating the feedback.

The new EU framework is planned for the second quarter of 2023.
