The procurement of Eastern vaccines has a significant social support

It is important to recall that in 2021, due to unfavourable vaccine procurement contracts in Brussels, vaccine shortages developed in Europe, putting Member States that relied solely on “central” EU procurement regarding their vaccination strategy to control the coronavirus pandemic in difficult situation. In order for Hungary to overcome these difficulties, the Pharmaceutical Authority decided first to authorize the Russian Sputnik V and then the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. Although this step was a precondition for restarting life and economy in Hungary as soon as possible, Péter Márki-Zay called the use of the Sinopharm vaccine a “genocide” and envisaged the prospect of accountability in this regard. Századvég examined what Hungarians think about the purchase of other vaccines in Hungary in addition to the vaccines included in the EU contracts.

Márki-Zay continues the anti-vaccine campaign of the left

Continuing the left’s anti-vaccination actions, Péter Márki-Zay said that “there is serious concern” about the Sinopharm vaccine, saying that “It is no coincidence that no EU country has purchased the Chinese vaccine, let alone being administered a vaccine that has not been tested to a person over the age of 60,” and added that “Anyway, this is a genocide, and I think this is one of the most important issues to be held accountable for.” We should remember that in May 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the emergency use of Sinopharm, a signal to national authorities about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. The approval in question did not make any distinction between the age groups over the age of 18, meaning that

the body also allowed the vaccine to be used in the case of the elderly.

It is also important to emphasize that the specialists of the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉI) responsible for the domestic licensing of vaccines also carries out its work in accordance with European standards and regulations, during which they act with the same precision and demandingness as its Western counterparts.

The majority of Hungarians agree with the procurement of Eastern vaccines

It can be stated that the vast majority of Hungarians saw the government’s “separate” purchase of Sputnik V and Sinopharm vaccines as a necessary, right decision. The survey shows that

62 percent of those surveyed think it was a good idea that Hungary had purchased other Eastern vaccines in addition to those procured by Brussels,

while 32 percent believe that this would not have been necessary.
