The majority of Hungarians oppose Péter Márki-Zay’s plan to repeal the Child Protection Act
According to a recent survey of Századvég, 69 percent of Hungarians do not support Péter Márki-Zay’s proposal to repeal the Child Protection Act. In view of the forthcoming national referendum, the survey looked into the matter of what the politically active Hungarian population thought about the statements of the left-wing candidate for prime minister in relation to child protection.
Nearly two-thirds of Hungarian voters disagree with Márki-Zay’s criticism of the Fundamental Law
64 percent of respondents do not share Márki-Zay’s view that it is “aberration” and “tacky” that the Fundamental Law sets out that “the mother is a woman, the father is a man”,
while 31 percent agree with the left-wing politician’s standpoint.
Public opinion is in favour of the Child Protection Act
After the National Assembly had ordered the referendum on child protection, the left’s candidate for prime minister explained that if the left-liberal forces have the possibility to form a government in the spring, “we will immediately repeal this terrible act”. At the same time, the research reveals that
69 percent of Hungarians oppose Péter Márki-Zay’s proposal to repeal the Child Protection Act,
while 21 percent would support this move.
